Past, Present, Future.

Past, Present, Future.

Something I have always had a deep connection to through every facet of my life is music. It has driven me creatively, has informed big decisions and shaped my future, and allows me to look back on the key moments of my past. In the last few years, my passion for music has taken a backbench to prioritise my interest in filmmaking, however a short composition I made recently for an assignment has allowed me to rediscover that passion and get back into what made music so special for me in the first place.

Using this re-emerging love for music I decided to make my submission to Storehouse’s “Past, Present and Future” issue a composition which travels through time, from the classical period into the rock renaissance and finally the modern age, the sound of which is loosely inspired by the sounds and motifs of lo-fi hip-hop, helped along with a bit more tempo and noise for a more satisfying conclusion to the piece. I decided to then finish with the piece culminating in one final crescendo that brings all the sections together in unison as a love letter to the art.

The message I would like to impart through this piece is how all music, regardless of genre, has the potential to change a life for somebody. I sincerely hope that you, the reader, the listener; will gain a fresh perspective on how much of an impact music has on daily life and reflect inwards on your own relationship with this complicated yet beautiful art form.
