This tryptic comprises three autoethnographic vignettes. Each vignette draws on an identity. My past identity as an artist, which started early in childhood, and my present identity as a post-graduate research student, then stipulates an uncertain future identity.

The piece shows how our identities change over time. The vignettes help us understand how identities ebb and flow. Additionally, they start to demonstrate how identities are often formed in specific locations.

Artist, Researcher, Then What? blurs the lines between academic and artistic practice and was created using writing as a method of inquiry and meaning-making. Within this inquiry, I am discovering what it means to inhabit the identities of artist and researcher and what it feels like to not know which identity will come next. Through the thick description of the four identities that I am embedded in and writing about, I can provide an understanding of them to others. The intention is to create writings that will resonate with those like myself.

The work uses a font that was created for my art practice. The change of font and scale is indented to help move the work away from an academic context, and into an art one instead.
